West Bay Press Release

West Bay Exploration Company Agrees to Shut Down Shelby Township Well, Work to Ease Neighbor Concerns

TRAVERSE CITY, MICH., August 25, 2014 — West Bay Exploration Company today announced it has agreed to cease drilling operations indefinitely at its Shelby Township energy exploration well. Governor Rick Snyder, Senator Jack Brandenburg and Representative Pete Lund urged the measure after public concerns escalated this past week over drilling in a residential area.

“West Bay will shut down drilling operations in Shelby Township indefinitely by the end of this week,” said West Bay vice president Patrick Gibson. “Our goal is to be a good partner in the community, and it is clear that we need to work with neighbors and state officials to address concerns that are being raised before moving forward.”

Gibson said West Bay will cooperate with state officials as they develop a plan for easing resident concerns and maintaining neighborhood quality, while also preserving the state’s ability to meet its energy needs and protecting personal property rights.

“We appreciate the patience of neighbors while we have been under construction and apologize for the disruption to their lives,” Gibson said.
